A new mathematical concept and computer analysis of inactive power based on the presentation of generalized vectors of instantaneous values of voltage and current by four coordinates on a complex plane is presented. The analysis of the work of researchers over the past 100 years has established the mechanism for the occurrence of distortion power. In the new concept, this power does not characterize the degree of distortion of the forms of the load current curve with respect to voltage but determines the intensity of deviations of the instantaneous active and reactive powers relative to their average values.
