We explore a heterogeneous wireless sensor network (WSN) where densely deployed sensors and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are cooperated with each other to finish a challenging coverage task. The main goal of this paper is to find the optimal node deployment to minimize the total communication power, which dominates the energy consumption in WSNs. The necessary conditions are derived for the optimal node deployment in this heterogeneous WSNs. By theoretical analysis, UAVs are either all active or inactive. Based on the necessary conditions, we propose a Lloyd-like algorithm, Heterogeneous Lloyd (HL) Algorithm, to obtain the optimal node deployment. The proposed algorithms simulation results show that our algorithm saves more energy than random deployment.
