Multicore optical fibers are widely used for developing compact shape sensors for various applications. The accuracy of such sensors strongly depends on the resolution of the measured data. In this paper, we analyze the influence of the number of sensing points on the error and mean time of reconstruction of the multicore fiber shape. A criterion on the choice of this parameter is given considering the impact on the performance.
