The present volume of Journal of Physics: Conference Series collects the proceedings of contributions presented and discussed during the International Workshop DeSyT2019 (Detection Systems and Techniques in nuclear and particle physics) held from 11 to 13 September, 2019 in Messina (Italy). The scientific event was organized by: • Università degli Studi di Messina; • Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare - Sez. di Catania; • Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti; • Associazione Italiana di Fisica Medica. This event has been conceived in order to stimulate interactions and collaborations. between scientists working in different fields of science which involve particle. detection. It took place in the fascinating and suggestive library room of the Accademia Peoloritana dei Pericolanti. During the workshop more than twenty oral presentations have been discussed on the following topics: • Detectors; • Particle Identification Techniques; • Tracking Systems; • Simulation Tools and Applications; • Radiation detection and Imaging in Medical Sciences and other fields of social interest. We thank all participants for the scientific presentation, for the interesting discussions arose after each presented talk, and we hope these interactions could trigger new and interesting project in this fascinating field. We thank all participants also for their effort to prepare good papers leaving a useful trace of this scientific event. We also thank the referees of the papers for their meticulous work and constructive suggestions. Last but not least, many thanks to the staff of the Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti for their assistance during the workshop, and the students of University of Messina for their active participation to scientific discussions. During the preparation of this volume, our young friend and colleague Antonio Anastasi sadly passed away after a long illness. Antonio has been a brilliant researcher and during the last period dedicated himself to the measurement of muon magnetic anomaly with unusual passion and enterprise. But first of all Antonio has been an exceptional boy, always positive, deeply helpful end friendly in respect of everyone. We wish to dedicate this volume in lovely memory of Doctor Antonio Anastasi.
