We present a study on the structural, optical and electrochromic properties of sol-gel films of TiO 2 and TiO 2 -MnO. The XRD analyses show that the incorporation of Mn in the TiO 2 host matrix inhibits the crystallization process, as compared to single TiO 2 films, which are well crystallized in anatase phase. This conclusion is supported by FTIR analysis. Adding Mn to the TiO 2 films leads to a significant narrowing of the optical band gap. The electrochromic characteristics of TiO 2 -MnO films are better than those of the single titanium dioxide films after annealing at 300 °C.
