We revisit the effects of an early matter dominated era on gravitational waves induced by the scalar perturbations. In this work, we consider the gradual transition from an early matter dominated era to the radiation dominated era, where the time scale of the transition is comparable to the Hubble time at that time. The gradual transition can be realized by the standard perturbative reheating with a constant decay rate. We carefully take into account the evolutions of the perturbations during the gradual transition for the first time. As a result, we find that the induced gravitational waves can be suppressed contrary to the previous results.
