Cracked walls of chimneys have a serious impact on their durability. There are many reasons for chimney cracks. Among them, the most important is the impact of the environment in which the chimneys operate, the method of concrete care, the amount of reinforcement in the walls of the chimneys, the quality of concrete and the first start-up of the chimney. Cracks reduce the chimney’s stiffness and cause increased corrosion of reinforcing steel and concrete. Repairs of scratched chimneys are most often reduced to injection of cracks and replacement of concrete cover.
