This study was a Classroom Action Research (CAR), which aims to improve the cognitive abilities of students of SMPN 1 Manokwari after application of virtual laboratory media-based learning in science subjects static electricity material. The CAR model used was the Kemmis and Mc Taggart models. The research was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of 4 stages, namely planning, implementing actions, observations, and reflections. The instruments used were cognitive ability tests given after learning in each cycle, learning achievement observation sheets, and student activity observation sheets filled by observers during learning. Data analysis techniques used were descriptive analysis techniques to describe students’ cognitive abilities. The results showed that there was an increase in cognitive abilities of students in cycle 1, namely 59.5 ± SD 11.2 and cycle 2, namely 73.5 ± SD 13.8. Therefore, virtual laboratory media-based learning can be applied to static electricity material at SMPN 1 Manokwari to develop students’ cognitive abilities.
