This paper introduces a kind of FPGA rapid development method to complete the backward projection algorithm of SAR. Firstly, the traditional FPGA development has strict requirements for developers’ software and hardware knowledge. Then we introduce a kind of FPGA rapid development method based on the 2018(a) version of MATLAB’s Simulink of MATLAB. And then, the algorithm is divided into two parts, one is the range pulse compression part, and the other is the backward projection part. In order to make full use of the parallelism of BP algorithm, this paper divides the dates into four parts in the distance direction and the imaging grid is also divided into four parts. The projection grid is still based on the whole grid, which can improve the real-time performance of the algorithm. After the algorithm is modeled in Simulink, the model can be converted to the corresponding FPGA code by using the fixed point tool. The comparison of Scope display results with MATLAB results demonstrates the effectiveness of this MATLAB-based Simulink tool for FPGA development.
