ABSTRACT Protection of copyrights owned by authors and publishers has grown significantly more complex in the Internet age. Digital piracy of published products is an expanding problem which must be continuously addressed. This article provides an overview of the scope and many current facets of online piracy affecting publishers, strategies being deployed to prevent the transmission of infringing content via the Internet, and legislative proposals to create enhanced enforcement mechanisms to combat the problem.
