As a well-known gossip (in publishing circles at least), I had my ear to the ground some nine years ago when ALPSP were seeking a new Secretary General (now retitled CEO) to succeed Bernard Donovan. The word on the wire was that ALPSP had garnered a strong field of candidates, but that one stood out above all, and her qualifications, personality and experience were near-perfect for the role. Nine years later, as we celebrate Sally’s achievements on her retirement as CEO of ALPSP, that early confidence was well founded. As René Olivieri of Blackwell put it so eloquently:
