The Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) is currently developing a new electronic information environment that will revolutionize how users at academic institutions discover and access scholarly material. This new information environment will provide seamless and integrated access to national and local collections, including content licensed from publishers. This article describes the reasons why the new information environment is being developed, how it will work, and why publishers should find out more.
