Screens on bottom‐draining circular tanks typically require daily cleaning with a brush. The addition of three golf balls to 9,000‐L tanks virtually eliminated the need for cleaning, saving money and potentially reducing the risk of damage to fish during cleaning. Circular moving water kept the golf balls in perpetual motion on top of the screens, crushing entrained feces and waste food, which then exited the tanks. Golf balls typically require replacement after 6 months.
