This article aims to demonstrate that general practitioners can be involved in dependency treatment including methadone prescription in the normal course of their practice. As long as specialist and hospital support is available for different cases, GPs can look after dependency and chronic pain problems just as they look after schizophrenia, diabetes and depression.
