Evaluation of the effectiveness of instruction concerning drink driving is believed to be integral to a responsible educational approach to a traffic accident reduction program. It was out of a concern to appraise the extent to which the objectives of the Traffic Education Curriculum were being realized and the utility of the Drink Driving Education Materials Project in achieving those objectives that this evaluation study was conducted. The paper presents and discusses procedures and findings relating to the evaluation of a drink driving educational program conducted with Year 10 students attending Armidale High School. The instructional materials on which the program in the school was based are contained in the N.S.W. Traffic Authority Drink Driving Educational Materials Project. The study focused upon the effectiveness of both the overall program and the instructional materials. A pre‐test/post‐test design involving teacher‐designed knowledge tests, teacher and student interviews and an attitude scale was employed.
