A follow‐up study was undertaken of all clients referred to the Hunter Drug Advisory Service from their place of employment during the period 1978‐82. Data are presented describing the age, sex, principal drug problem(s) and the period of follow‐up of the clients. In addition the amount and type of treatment received by each client is briefly discussed. At follow‐up 12 of the 24 clients (50%) were judged to have been successfully rehabilitated in terms of their work performance. Successful clients were on average 14 years younger than those judged unsuccessful. The degree of treatment received including involvement in Alcoholics Anonymous did not appear to influence the quality of outcome.
