Abstract: Fifty consecutive clients admitted for treatment of alcohol dependence were questioned about their past use of prescribed or illicit drugs, taken separately or together with alcohol. Abuse of other drugs and overdose behaviour were found to be significantly more common in patients with personality disorders of the antisocial, impulsive type. These behaviours are probably related to personality rather than being specific to alcohol dependent persons. Behavioural cues which might constitute drug acquisitive behaviour are postulated.
