This paper describes the role and function of the Liaison Nurse as a specialist nurse in Drugs and Alcohol in a major teaching hospital setting. It argues that the Liaison Nurse can stimulate change by supporting and facilitating the role of the general nurse as an early detection and intervention agent in a patient population with alcohol and other drug related disorders.
