‘Stories at Work’, or fictional‐critical writing, is an emerging discipline; it has been piloted as a means of professional enquiry. This article offers a brief description of the Stories at Work process, an account of a specific course, and a report on the ways in which it has been used as a mode of enquiry. This is followed up with a whistle‐stop tour of a range of academic discourses in order to explore and articulate a theoretical context in which Stories at Work is located.
