Privileged interpersonal relationships, especially friendships and romantic involvements, constitute an original field of study and have aroused an increasing interest in recent years. It seemed important to see how different authors have studied the specificity of the relationships, the priority, the comings and goings on the intimate change from a friend to a romantic partner. Many theoretical propositions have tried to explain the process, the mechanisms and the causes of theses relationships. But most of them seem premature and/or are founded on inadequate descriptive data. Moreover, many authors show a certain laxity in defining the subject of their studies frequently confusing interactions and interpersonal relationships. This paper represents an attempt to revive the discussions about methods, paradigms and results of studies in this field.
