In conclusion, the report is an important contribution to the brainswelling hypothesis of HE, but we have some doubts that all the alterationsobserved may be attributed merely to ammonia. Ammonia stillremains the “principal suspect” in the pathogenesis of HE, but theidentification of the “accomplices” continues to be an important areaof investigation. (Letter to the Editor
