Aiming at the problem of high side‐band spectrum for a general frequency‐shift keying (FSK) radar signal, this study introduces a novel radar FSK signal based on continuous‐phase frequency‐shift keying (CPFSK) used in communication systems. Theoretical analysis, simulation and physical application results show that the CPFSK radar signal efficiently controls the spectral containment, whose roll‐off performance of the CPFSK is ∼20 dB better than that of normal FSK; meanwhile, the modified signal possesses good ambiguity and pulse compression performances for radar application.
