This article addresses a high‐resolution wide swath (HRWS) Terrain Observation by Progressive Scans (TOPSAR) mode which integrates the azimuth multichannel HRWS imaging technique and TOPSAR technique. More equivalent phase centres are obtained through the azimuth single‐input and multiple‐output technique, which would provide more azimuth samples. Hence, a more reliable and accurate imaging results of the large width terrain profile would be obtained. The performance of this HRWS TOPSAR mode is evaluated theoretically. A new processing method for this mode is provided and the results of simulation data processing validate the analysed results and the new method.
