As a new type of energy storage system, the flywheel energy storage system has been playing an important role in the field of DC micro‐grid. Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is widely used in flywheel energy storage system. In this study, the 2D static magnetic field and transient magnetic field of a permanent magnet synchronous motor are analyzed in Ansoft. The sensorless control strategy of PMSM is applied widely to reduce the system cost and optimize the system. Extended Kalman filter (EKF) is used to estimate the position signal in real time and online, which not only could reduce the complexity of system, but also could improve the stability of system operation. Finally, a simulation model is built in MATLAB/Simulink to verify the correctness of the proposed sensorless control strategy.
