This study presents a rapid sizing technique for interior permanent magnet (IPM) machine in traction application considering saturation effects. It is demonstrated that with limited computing resources, sizing, parameters considering saturation effects, and efficiency maps (loss maps) of an IPM machine can be generated within seconds with acceptable accuracy in comparison with finite element study and measurements. Thus, the proposed rapid sizing method is highly essential at the preliminary design stage of electric vehicle powertrains.
