The harmonics generated by the distributed generation (DG) inverter have great influence on the DG penetration. To obtain high adaptive conclusions in the distribution network, the DG penetration is analysed from two constrains: voltage distortion and current distortion. Taking the medium‐voltage feeder as the object, this study investigates the influence rule of DG and load distribution position on the voltage distortion change rate along the feeder. The formula for calculating the penetration under the worst condition considering the current distortion limit is deduced. Then a validation method is proposed based on the random scenarios and heuristic optimisation to demonstrate the deduction above. The case study shows that the conclusions can be applied in the medium‐voltage feeder to guide the DG integration.
