To promote the insulation level of running cable, the siloxane injection technology is utilised. In this study, the siloxane liquid was injected into cable samples and penetrated into the insulation to react with the water in water tree. At the same time, the microvoids were filled with the organic compounds created by chemical reaction. Then the electron microscopy energy spectrum was detected and the experiments of driving large current and industrial frequency breakdown were performed. Moreover, the electric field of water tree area was simulated simultaneously. The result showed that the repair liquid could rapidly penetrate into the insulation of the cross‐linked polyethylene cables, reacting with water and inhibiting the growth of water tree, thus greatly enhanced the insulation performance. Based on the analysis, the authors found that the siloxane liquid can promote the industrial running cable's insulation safely quickly and effectively.
