This work proposes a device, external to an electric vehicle (EV), capable of adding vehicle‐to‐home and vehicle‐to‐grid functionality by using the available battery terminals in a combo connector. This configuration eliminates the need of onboard EV bidirectional inverters, reducing weight, cost and complexity while adding the possibility of integrating local renewable energy generation. In order to validate the concept of the system, design and simulations of the proposed system were carried out in a 2 kW prototype.
