The authors propose and experimentally demonstrate an integrated visible light communication (VLC) and multimode fibre communication (MFC) system. The bit error rate results are under the 7% pre‐forward‐error‐correction limit of 3.8 × 10 −3 through 100‐m multimode fibre and 60‐cm free‐space transmission with 600 Mbit/s by 64 quadrature amplitude modulation and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing. The experimental results show that VLC system can serve as an excellent choice for the optical interconnect system, such as MFC system. As far as the authors’ knowledge, this is the first time that MFC has been introduced to VLC system.
