The field transformation (FT) method provides a design approach for artificial media which manipulate wave radiation and propagation with both parallel and perpendicular polarisations at wide incidence angles. Here, the authors study radiation characteristics of antennas with such an artificial medium. Specifically, a wide‐angle FT polariser was applied as an antenna superstrate to control its polarisation characteristics at a broadband of frequencies with little impact on the gain and the radiation pattern. The resulting antenna demonstrates stable multi‐polarised radiation states at a wide angular range. The measurement results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions and numerical simulations.
