A new design concept of a compact satellite antenna module for automotive application is presented, enabling mobile reception of all common Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), e.g. GPS in L1 and L2 bands, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou, as well as reception of Satellite Digital Audio Radio Services (SDARS). The design concept is based on the combination of a dual‐band ring structure for GNSS with a single‐band ring structure for SDARS which allows easy fabrication in combination with high reception properties. The performance of the antenna module and its fulfilment of the requirements of car manufacturers and service providers is proven by simulated and measured results, showing the high realised gain for circular polarisation, efficiency, matching and decoupling against terrestrial interferers.
