This study describes a new low‐profile broadband circularly polarised (CP) antenna. The antenna comprises a directly fed CP patch of new configuration that excites four square parasitic patches in an upper layer and an L‐shaped parasite alongside the excited patch. This arrangement provides an improvement in axial ratio (AR) bandwidth over existing configurations, having an impedance bandwidth of 38% (return loss > 10 dB), with an AR bandwidth of 28.1% (AR < 3 dB) and a peak gain of 8.4 dBic.
