An all‐metal linearly polarised radial line slot antenna without dielectric is proposed in this study. As a result of this study, new design suggestions have been introduced which greatly contribute to the performance improvement of this type of antennas for high power microwave application. An antenna prototype operating at 9.27 GHz was designed with a height of 10 cm and an aperture radius of 25.5 cm. Experimental measurements show that at the centre frequency, the antenna gain reaches 31.3 dBi, an aperture efficiency of 55%, return loss is less than −20 dB. The radiation patterns indicate a reasonable cross‐polarisation level more than 30 dB below the co‐polarisation. This all‐metal antenna efficiency is higher than the traditional one.
