In this study, a concept and design optimisation of a miniaturised multiple‐input–multiple‐output (MIMO) antenna is presented. In the authors’ approach, an improved space filling is achieved by optimising an individual antenna layout for minimum size. The MIMO structure is subsequently obtained by arranging two of the previously designed structures. As the design task is heavily constrained both in terms of geometry and electrical performance objectives, surrogate‐assisted optimisation is exploited to obtain the final design in reasonable timeframe. The MIMO structure features a small size of only 565 mm 2 and exhibits good isolation in the entire ultra‐wideband band as confirmed by the measurement data.
