This study presents a compact dual‐band antenna for wireless local area network (WLAN) applications. The proposed antenna consists of small striplines on both sides of a substrate and a lumped capacitor on the top side to reduce the antenna size. As a folded monopole‐type resonance is occurred in 5 GHz band, the proposed antenna yields dual‐band characteristics. The resonant mechanism is also analysed using the equivalent circuit model. Electric characteristics of the proposed antenna such as radiation patterns, peak gains, and radiation efficiencies, are presented through the simulation and measurement under various conditions. The antenna size is only 5 × 9 mm 2 . The proposed antenna can cover both WLAN bands of 2.4 and 5 GHz.
