This work explores the impact of the ground plane on a λ /2 open‐slot antenna using the spherical wave expansion in the far‐field zone. In terms of equivalent radiating sources, the nature of the open‐slot antenna radiation pattern is not well assessed. This study shows that for small ground planes, open‐slot antenna is a multiple source antenna.
