This study presents a novel method based on graph theory (GT) to find the best switch set (SWS) topology for reconfiguration of PV panels. In the proposed method, the minimum number of switches and maximum capability for realising different desired configurations for the best topology are taken into account. In spite of the published PSO‐based optimisation approach by the authors, the proposed graph‐based method is able to derive the best SWS for any expansion of the problem. Mathematic representation of the problem based on GT and the proposed algorithm for finding the best topology of SWS are discussed in details. Different results of the SWS assessment confirm that the optimised SWS is able to implement various desirable configurations with minimum number of switches.
