Load modelling has significant effect on various power system studies. This study presents methodologies for modelling the loads under large as well as small disturbances using the measurements from phasor measurement units. A computationally efficient algorithm to estimate the parameters under small disturbances is presented using linearised model for the loads and eigenvalue sensitivity. An efficient optimisation algorithm is used for fast estimation of the load model parameters. Promising results are obtained from the simulation carried out on a small test system as well as on a practical larger power system, which have been compared with some of the existing methods to establish the superiority of the proposed method (PM) in terms of computational speed and accuracy.
