The study concerns the design of a new dynamical observer for descriptor systems called as generalised dynamic observer. It generalises the existing results on the proportional observers and proportional integral observers. Conditions for the existence and stability of this observer are given and its design is obtained in terms of a set of linear matrix inequalities. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated by a numerical example.
