In this study, a multiple access scheme called low density signature isotropic orthogonal transfer algorithm (LDS‐IOTA) is proposed for overloading transmissions, and an analytical model for the performance limitations of this system is developed. LDS‐IOTA utilises a low density signature structure for spreading the symbols in frequency domain, and applies such technique to IOTA‐based filter bank multicarrier system. The input–output mutual information of LDS‐IOTA is analysed for the case of finite size modulation, and LDS‐IOTA is compared with OFDM as well as LDS‐OFDM over multipath fadding channels.
