The rapid development and effective accommodation of new energy gradually became the focus of various sectors of Chinese society in the period of 2011–2020. Based on the State Grid Corporation of China's development of new energy and its accommodation patterns, the mechanisms of new energy accommodation, and the continuous 'double‐decline' effect in recent years, this article analyses a series of measures adopted by State Grid Corporation of China to promote new energy accommodation in China. These measures include guiding scientific grid‐integration of new energy, enhancing the adjusting capability of sources, constructing new energy transmission channels, strengthening source‐grid‐load‐storage coordinated dispatch, realising the full role of the market, and creating a new energy cloud platform. This article looks ahead to the trend and characteristics of the future development of new energy. Furthermore, several recommendations for comprehensive measures for larger‐scale and high‐quality development and accommodation of new energy in the future are also summarized, from the perspectives of flexible operation, cross‐regional accommodation, multi‐energy synergy, market regulation, digital information technology, and co‐action of the government and enterprises.
