Oil‐spill detection using hybrid‐pol data has been carried out through a novel λ ‐based reconstruction approach. Initially, the proposed λ ‐based method is experimented over two different datasets, which concludes that the proposed method is a better alternative for oil‐spill detection in comparison with conventional Souyris' and state‐of‐art Espeseth's reconstruction methods. Moreover, by utilising the λ ‐based method, a new oil spill index parameter is being proposed for oil‐spill detection.
