The adaptive threshold reception scheme for OFDM pulse‐width modulation (OFDM‐PWM)‐based visible light communication systems is presented. The authors first implement the adaptive threshold algorithm to modify the discrete OFDM‐PWM sampling signal. Then, the unit periodic integral is employed for the modified time‐domain sampling sequence to accurately calculate the pulse width of each OFDM‐PWM sample. The proposed reception scheme is robust to the additive white Gaussian noise superimposed on the amplitude of the received OFDM‐PWM signals. The experimental results show that the proposed adaptive threshold reception scheme has a better BER performance compared with the traditional OFDM.
