Mode tracking in a proper way is still a challenging task for characteristic mode analysis. A novel mode tracking method is proposed based on correlating mode current density distribution matrix. First, the mode current density distribution matrix corresponding to eigenvectors is calculated. Secondly, the proposed tracking method is performed by correlating the mode current density distribution matrix. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, a planar Minkowski fractal structure and a complex three‐dimensional structure are analysed by the proposed tracking method and the commercial software FEKO, respectively. The results show that the proposed method works effectively.
