Theoretical imaging performance for forward‐looking synthetic aperture radar (SAR) with simultaneous cross‐track transceiver translation is characterised. Cross‐range resolution as a function of transceiver transverse velocity and synthetic aperture length is analysed. Then the transverse velocity needed to avoid left‐right ambiguity is derived. Lastly, imaging performance is demonstrated by focusing simulated data.
