The polarisation smoothing generalised multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm for low angle estimation with polarisation sensitive array (PSA) monostatic multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO) radar is proposed. The proposed method takes advantage of the virtual aperture of the MIMO radar and the polarisation diversity of the PSA simultaneously to improve the resolution, which has better performance than generalised MUSIC algorithm when the direct and the reflected signals are out of phase. Simulation results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
