Silicon arrayed‐waveguide grating using rib‐waveguide multimode interference coupler at the array and slab waveguide interface is reported. A 100 GHz channel spacing 8ch device showing 2.8 dB insertion loss is obtained. The insertion loss was improved compared with a device using simple width taper.
