A four‐element array of printed directive dipoles loaded with complementary split‐ring resonators (CSRRs) is proposed for triple‐band applications. The triple‐band response in the array is attributed to the reference dipole mode, one CSRR‐induced lower‐frequency resonance and one higher order resonance obtained due to the interaction of the feed‐network comprising of broad‐side coupled coplanar striplines. A simplified equivalent circuit model is further developed to provide insight to the operating principle of the proposed triple band array. Stable fan‐beam radiation pattern and high realised gain is observed at all the working bands. The results of measurement on a fabricated prototype validate the proposed design methodology.
