A ‘charge‐dumping’ digital‐to‐analogue converter (DAC) switching scheme is proposed for successive‐approximation‐register analogue‐to‐digital converters. The proposed switching scheme utilises switched current sources to shift DAC voltages without consuming any power. The proposed scheme reduces DAC switching energy by 99.86% and DAC capacitance by 93.75% from the conventional scheme, the highest reductions among all reported switching schemes.
