A resonating segmented Mach–Zehnder modulator with peaking transfer function is designed and fabricated in InP. The modulator is able to transmit a 56 Gbit/s on–off keying signal although the driver is limited to 20 GHz bandwidth. Bit error ratio over dispersion and optical signal‐to‐noise ratio are measured and show substantial advantage over their non‐resonating counterparts.
